What is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive, non surgical, evidence based treatment that stimulates stem cell production, influences blood flow deep into the tissue and decreases pain in the affected area. Shock Wave Therapy is usually recommended as the next step for patients who have tried more conservative treatments and have been met with limited success. It is therefore often used for chronic conditions i.e. long developing syndromes that require cellular level stimulation in order to stimulate the body’s natural healing response.
How does it work?
The Shockwave is produced by the hand applicator and is essentially high energy acoustic waves. The acoustic waves hits the tissue and produces physiological responses that reverse chronic inflammation, speed up tissue repair, regulates pain and improves circulation.

Who Can Benefit From Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy has been scientifically proven to effectively regenerate soft tissues such as muscles, tendons or ligaments as well as regenerate bone tissue for a faster and long lasting healing response. It is the only procedure that is FDA approved, proven to effectively repair tissue without surgery.
For clients who suffer from chronic pain or recurring issues I highly recommend incorporating Shockwave therapy into the Osteopathic treatment model for effective and long lasting results. It has been clinically proven to significantly reduce inflammation and pain associated with the following conditions:
Common conditions
- Plantar Fasciitis (Heel Spur)
- Tennis elbow
- Golfers Elbow
- Trochanteritis
- Achilles Tendinitis
- Hamstring attachment inflammation
- Rotator Cuff Syndrome
- Trigger Point Pain
Shockwaves are acoustic waves with high energy peaks that work on a cellular level to accelerate tissue repair and cell growth. At Move Easy Clinic we use the Swiss made Storz Medical Shockwave Therapy equipment which is considered to be the gold standard in the industry. They are also the biggest provider of scientific evidence for the efficiency of shockwave therapy treatment.
Expected Recovery Time
The length and amount of treatments is dictated by extensive clinical and empirical research which suggests 5-6 treatment sessions in conjunction with Osteopathic assessment and rehab protocols.
Shockwave effects the healing process on a cellular level. Sessions are schedules 5-7 days apart.
Many of my patients have reported significant relief and symptom improvement within the first two weeks (2-3 sessions). However as with any chronic condition or stubborn pain, long term relief can be expected after a total of 12 weeks. During this time a combination of Shockwave therapy as well as proven rehab protocols that support the healing process are used.
As an Osteopath my role is to facilitate your body's natural ability to heal itself. I have introduced Shockwave therapy into my treatment method because it is the most advanced technology available to prevent or significantly delay the need for more invasive interventions like injections and surgery. - Tobias
